CRPS/RSD: SOUND & LIGHT THERAPY
Light & Sound | Neurofeedback | LENZ Technique
Notes on Sound/Light from a CRPS/RSD patient..."I have to let every CRPS / RSD patient know that this was the first type of treatment that allowed me to get my pain levels down to ZERO!"
"We spent time utilizing his expertise in hypnosis in pain management, bio-feedback, imagery, light/sound therapy, alpha/beta sound waves, etc... He even picked up on the fact that I was suffering from PTSD from everything that I had been through with my CRPS. None of my other doctors had picked up on that. Ron utilized the tools he had and taught me to use his tools to help myself. By the end of the 30+ hours of time with him and homework that I had done in my hotel room in the evenings... I came away with CD's of every session, the tools to keep my pain or as Ron says (my "Comfort Levels") down / or at a ZERO, the ability to put myself into hypnosis and my own light/sound therapy machine. I have to let every CRPS / RSD patient know that this was the first type of treatment that allowed me to get my pain levels down to ZERO! Plus, Ron, gave me the tools to keep them at a Zero." The referred doctor this patient is referencing is Ron Eslinger in Clinton, TN |

Light & Sound TherapyMind machines are also referred to as Light and Sound devices, audio visual stimulation equipment, psycho audio stimulators, brain wave machine and those machines with the blinking lights. We call them Mental Fitness Systems. Optic-audio-neuro stimulation technology incorporates pulsating light with binaural beats to create brain synchronization.
The principle behind light and sound is simple. The lights flicker and the binaural beats are produced by the device. Depending upon the frequency you select various states of consciousness can be achieved. The machines are programmable to generate alpha, beta, theta, delta and gamma brain waves. The study of "brainwaves" has played a vital role in the understanding of how the brain and mind function. Discovered in the 1920s by German researcher Hans Berger, these tiny electrical signals mirror the shifting patterns of mental activity. They are measured by attaching special sensors, called electrodes, to the scalp; these pick up brainwave activity which is then measured by an instrument called an elec-troencephalograph, or EEG.
As it turns out, certain patterns of brainwave activity are also associated with specific mental states.
Beta (13-30 Hz) is associated with normal, waking consciousness; attention directed towards the external environment. You are most likely in the "beta state" as you read this. Beta waves oscillate between approximately 14 and 30 times per second (Hz). Alpha (8-13 Hz) is relaxed, not thinking about anything in particular, sometimes a pleasurable feeling of "floating". Often dominant in certain kinds of meditation, alpha waves have for the past twenty years been associated with calm, lucid mental states (the "alpha state"). They are also often detected during dream sleep. Alpha waves oscillate between 9 and 13 times per second. Theta (4-8 Hz) Found in states of deep relaxation, theta activity is also associated with bursts of creative insight, twilight ("sleep") learning and vivid mental imagery. It is also found in more advanced meditators. Theta waves oscillate between 4 and 8 times per second. Delta ( -4 Hz) This slowest of brainwave activity, is found during deep dreamless sleep and sometimes in very experienced meditators. They oscillate between 1 and 3 Hz. Your brainwave activity is constantly shifting and changing during the day and night. Virtually every form of mental and physical activity will cause changes in this activity. Abrupt, unexpected noises or other events will quickly alter your brainwave patterns. Even watching TV can dramatically alter brainwave activity in an undirected manner. What happens when I have a session?
With special light glasses, called "LiteFrames", over your closed eyes and headphones over your ears, you are immersed in colorful geometric patterns and entrancing sounds. The light and sound pulse rate shifts from state to state as the session progresses; brain wave activity will follow the pulse rate of the machine and fall into synch with the changes. When you need to access different states of functioning, you can select a pre-set session that combines scientifically designed sequences of pulses light and sound frequencies. For instance, if you want to slow down and relax deeply or sleep, you would choose a program from the list provided with the L/S device, sit or lie back with the LED glasses and headphones on, and let the flickering lights and sounds capture your brainwaves and gently lead them into letting go. If you felt fuzzy and unable to focus, you might choose an energizing program that uses faster, Beta frequencies that can sharpen your thinking and stimulate your energy. How does one go about using these machines? Whenever you can take at least 15 minutes or more, find a quiet place, sit or lie down, and select a session that matches your goal, ie relaxation, learning, energizing, etc. Start the session. Now the most important thing to do... NOTHING! That's right, don't do anything. Don't try to relax or even pay attention. Just let whatever may happen, happen. Let go and let the lights and sounds carry you away. You may drift off and feel like you went to sleep. That's fine. This is not a test. You can't do it wrong unless you try to force it. Resist the "Type A" desire/compulsion to do something! That's exactly how you got so stressed out to begin with. The L/S session can give you the opportunity to "stop the world" for a little while and get off the treadmill of effort and worry. If you let this "time out" happen, you may be amazed to find out that you will become more productive, efficient, and cheerful. That means that the time you spent doing nothing has been some of the most valuable time you can spend! Who should not use it?
If you have a seizure disorder or are under a doctor's care, you should definitely consult with your health care provider before trying L/S. |
LENZ Neuro-FeedbackLow Energy Neurofeedback System, uses a very low power electromagnetic field, like the ones that surround digital watches, to carry a tiny feedback stimulation. Despite such a weak signal, LENS produces a measurable change without any effort from the client. The result is changed brainwaves and greater self-regulation.
The LENS neurofeedback process is not a treatment for any specific condition or directed toward a specific diagnosis. It is a general process that optimizes brain function. However, as self-regulation occurs, many symptoms that have their basis in central nervous system dysfunction begin to improve. It can manifest as mood improvement in people with anxiety, depression, and explosiveness. It can manifest in improved sleep in people with sleeping disorders, restless leg syndrome, or night teeth grinding. Neuroscientists now believe that the physical structure of the brain can change. This neuro-plasticity means you don’t have to be stuck with the old dedicated neural pathways that have defended parts of the brain from trauma or stress. It means you don’t have to be limited by thoughts, moods and behaviors that have imposed limits on your wellbeing. Unlike traditional neuro-feedback techniques, which require repeated efforts to change brain waves, the LENS is passive. You sit and relax, closing your eyes, while your brain does all the work. The LENS trusts your brain to direct it’s own reorganization, and gently encourages the brain to “reboot” itself, and restore optimal function. In this way it can positively affect anything controlled by the nervous system and has been shown effective for:
People notice marked improvement after the 2-4 sessions. Clarity and energy improve. Annoying things don’t cause the same reaction. Kids become calm and focused, even interested. Athletes excel. Artists create. Projects get done. You become better at being you. LENS is safe. There are no recorded instances of it causing harm or structural changes to anyone in over twenty years of use of the LENS on close to 100,000 people. The LENS provides information in the form of biofeedback. By using feedback frequencies that are closer to the brain’s own than something like the powerful MRI field, The clinician providing the service can give you an idea of what to expect during an in depth evaluation of your history, symptoms, and other key factors guiding treatment. A LENS session is quick. This mirroring causes a fluctuation in your brainwaves, allowing dysfunctional patterns to correct.
Because of the mildness and efficiency, LENS is ideal for young children, highly sensitive people, and those who are weak, infirmed or elderly. LENS is a vital part of our practice and assists patient’s ability to reintegrate and reorganize in new patterns of freedom and expression, thus contributing to personal growth … and a good night’s sleep. The LENS was developed by Len Ochs, of Ochs Labs in Sebastopol, CA. It has clinically helping people for over 20 years. It is approved by the FDA. ochslabs.com
